Around the Block Women's Bike

Hey guys, Dustin here, CEO of sixthreezero. I want to talk to you today about the Around the Block women's bike. What type of rides it's good for and what type of rider it's good for. So we designed the Around the Block for simple riding around the block. We call it the ATB internally. What we really envisioned was a bike ideal for rides five miles or less. Now that's not to say you couldn't ride this bike for more than five miles or 10 miles, but we think this is the best bike for the true casual leisurely rider. And when we say around the block, that can mean lots of different things to lots of different people. That could be around your neighborhood. That could be to the local swimming pool. That could just be around a city block. It's just the idea of you want to get out on a bike. You don't ride lots of really long distances and you want to be comfortable.

The cool thing about the Around the Block is it does come in lots of different speed options, single three, seven, and 21 speed. There's a wide gear variance. So if you like this style and you like the comfort that comes with this type of bike, it's not to say you can't ride it for more than around the block, but our main intent was that around the block rider. So simple, easy riding. Things that come to mind is someone that rides with their kids. College campuses are another good one if you are not concerned with speed. If you're not concerned with speed, this is a great option. If you're someone on the college campus that's concerned with speed, maybe think about something else. Riding by the beach, casual strolls along the beach, boardwalks, riverfronts, environments where traffic will be limited.

You're not concerned with tight steering, things of that nature. In terms of riders, I would say this is also a great option for beginning riders. It's a simple curve-down frame. It's easy to get on and off, very easy to ride. So for beginner riders, it's great. For other riders that just want to go very slow, doesn't matter what age range you're in. Things like that. I would say, if you're looking for a more exercise-minded bike, there are better options that we have in our line. If you're looking for speed, there are better options we have in our line. Commuting, things like that. This is the recreational leisurely rider. In terms of the terrain, it has thicker tires so it's capable of going on hard-packed trails off-road. With a thicker tire, it's going to make riding on those trails a little bit more difficult just because it's going to be a wider tire that you have to propel over the dirt.

So ideally I would say this bike's perfect for paved surfaces and what the thicker tires do is it absorbs the shock. So it makes it really easy on the rider's body. You don't feel a lot of the vibration. You can see here, this is a 2.125-inch tire. The idea of this is that it's like riding on a cloud. These are like balloon-type tires where the tire is going to absorb the feel of the road, not your body. When you ride with a thinner tire, you're going to feel every bump. It's going to feel stiff, but it's going to roll a lot easier. So these tires may not roll quite as smooth. However, if you're not riding at fast speeds, it's not going to be inhibiting to a rider. You can also see an extra-wide saddle with coil springs.

So the extra-wide saddle is a staple of cruiser bikes. We don't really necessarily want to classify this as a beach cruiser. Beach cruisers have a stigma of like, "Oh, they're only ridden by the beach." That's why we've called this bike the Around the Block Cruiser bike, a touring bike. So this is definitely a classic cruiser element, oversized saddle, super comfortable, again, everything on this bike is designed with comfort first, performance second. To make sure that when the rider gets on, they don't feel pain in their rear. They don't feel pain in their back. They don't feel pain in their arms. They get off with a smile. And the next time they get on, not worried about feeling pain. Some other elements that we do on this bike are we have all blacked-out components. It's actually great for the weather.

It's going to protect the paint and things from corrosion and rusting. So you can see the wheels, handlebars, stem, seat posts, even the rear rack. If you were to leave this bike outside, the only thing really that's going to be susceptible to rust would be the exposed metal, which obviously would be the chain and the sprocket, things like that. But even the spokes are painted black. So that's another protectant from the weather. So if you are a beach rider, it's a great option because you don't have to worry about that corrosion or that rust that I'm sure we all know about when you live by the beach, everything rusts. So, as I said before too, this bike comes in four speeds. The reason we did that again is because typically in cruiser bikes, a lot of people think, "Oh, it's only a single speed." So now this bike's available in 1, 3, 7, and 21.

So if you do love the comfort of this style of bike, if you love the look of it, now you have the option. Of course, the single-speed is the classic cruiser-looking speed option. When people think of cruises, they think of single speeds. We've added a three-speed, which is a very simple twist shifter, the Shimano Nexus 3-speed. That's great for someone that still loves casual riding, but may ride somewhere in the five to 10-mile range, gives you enough gears to help you get up hills, to go a little bit longer distances. We've offered the 7 speed. So if you like a cruiser but you do want to exercise, you can have those seven speeds go a little bit faster, go up a little bit more hills, push it a little farther and finally add the 21 speed.

So if you're thinking you want to get exercise, but again, you love the style of this bike or you love the comfort that cruiser-esque bikes have to offer, go with the 21 speed. That's what we're trying to do here is we're trying to implement elements of other bikes into cruisers and do something a little bit different because typically you don't see a lot of 7 and 21 speeds in the cruiser realm. But again, the 21 speed, really only necessary if you're going to ride a very hilly terrain, longer distances, and maybe you want to break a sweat and be more aggressive on the ride.
