Best Comfort Bikes For Beginners | Everything about Comfort Bicycles

Hey guys, Dustin here, CEO of Six Three Zero. Today we're going to talk about the best comfort bikes for beginners. So, let's jump right into it.

Comfort bikes are a category a bicycle, obviously deemed for comfort. Now a lot of questions I get is what really makes a comfort bike? Now, it's a great question. As I see a comfort bike really is identifying a few things. Typically, you'll see a comfort bike with a very low step-through frame that makes it easy to get on and off the bike. You're also a lot of times going to see a suspension seat post, so that seat post would basically have a little spring in it so the seat can absorb the bumps and the shocks and things like that. And then also on a lot of comfort bikes, you're going to see a front suspensions fork. So between these two things, the front suspension fork and the seat post suspension, those really add to the comfort and the shock absorption of the bike.

Now, the most important element in my mind is the seat. So, a comfort bike seat really can make or break a comfort bike because your butt is obviously your main contact point on a bicycle. So typically, comfort seats you're going to see a wider saddle, some sort of dual elastomer spring, or a double spring in general, and a lot of times you're going to see memory foams or gels being used in the actual seat itself.

So when we talk about what's the best comfort bike for a beginner, the number one thing I would say is a comfort bike with a step-through frame.

This is going to allow for easy on and off on the bike. You won't have to swing your leg over the bar, and you can just basically stop and step right off the bike. And step through comfort bikes are available for men and women, or men could also ride a step-through frame comfort bike that might be in the women's category, but men can ride it as well.

It doesn't really matter that is deemed a woman's bike as long as the color suits you and the size suits you. If you're a beginner, I would recommend a step-through frame either way. So if you can't find a men's step through comfort bike, 'cause I know a lot of companies when they make comfort bikes, they typically make the women's with a step through and the men's with sort of a normal triangle frame, if you will so that the top tube is a little bit higher. Now actually us too, we don't particularly have a step-through comfort bike for men either. We're coming out with one in the next six months. So if you're seeing this video actually in December of 2019 we probably already have the bike already. But if you're watching it earlier, like July, we don't have a men's step through comfort bike.

But it's something I've wanted to develop because there's a lot of men out there that actually ask that. Much easier to get on and off.

The other thing I will say, so for beginners, one other thing is you may not really need the suspension fork. Now I know that that's like a higher level of comfort when you get the suspension fork. However, if you're going to be riding on flat land, very easy going riding, and you're a true beginner, it's probably best just to get a fork, a normal one, you know, one piece fork that's molded or forged. And you don't need the suspension. The suspension is great if you're going to go up and down a lot of curbs or bumpy areas or trails. And you know, if you're just going on flat land, streets, sidewalks, and it's not hilly or anything, you're not going to notice a huge difference between having a suspension fork or not having it. And it might save you some money. Well, I know it will save you some money to not have the suspension fork on your bike.

Now again, this is just for beginners. If you're riding a lot and you know you're going to be enduring some bumpy terrain or off-roading, having that suspension fork is a really good thing. Yeah, so, and in terms of the suspension seat post, I do like that. The only thing with the suspension seat posts is your seat has to be raised up about two and a half inches to account for the spring on the suspension seat posts. So if you're looking at a comfort bike and you notice it has a suspension seat post, just know that you can't lower that seat all the way down because you have to allow that two and a half inches for the spring. So if you're a beginner and you may want to put the seat really low, a suspension seat post might not be a good option for you.

But in terms of comfort, I really like the suspension seat post. So if you can find something that works for your body, I would definitely give it a try.
