The best e-bikes for short women in 2024.
Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today we're going to show you four of the best e-bikes for short women. And I'm joined by Olivia, who's five foot two with a 29-inch inseam. And we're gonna show you how we can size and fit her to these four different e-bikes. All right, so I've got Olivia with me. She's ridden e-bikes a few times, actually only with me. The first time was, and then today she's riding a few other ones. Not a very experienced e-bike rider. Behind me, I've got four e-bikes that are great for short women. Our Simple Step-Thru 26 inches, 20 inches, our Evryjourney, and our Relaxed Body. Now, all four of these are 500-watt e-bikes. You can get up to 20 miles an hour with just the throttle. You can also use the pedal assist to get to about 23, and 24 miles an hour. 10.4 amp hour batteries that can take you up to 50 miles depending on how you use the throttle and the pedal assist during your ride. So we're going to size and fit Olivia to each of these, then she's going to take a little test ride, which we didn't tell her that, but she'll take a little test ride down here, demonstrate, and then we'll get your feedback on what you like the best, what feels good. So if you're a woman rider who's shorter, in the 4’11” to 5 foot 3 range you can get a good concept around what type of e-bike would work well for you. So let's first start with the Simple Step-Thru 26 inches. Now, this is going to be the tallest out of all of them. So I'm curious to see how this will fit you with your 29-inch inseam.
So go ahead and see if you can and make sure you step through the frame to get on. There you go. Oh, it's pretty good. Not too bad. Can you get the kickstand? Or, well, the pedals are there. It's okay. So she is up on the tips of her toes. So with her 29-inch inseam, that's probably the shortest inseam that would be viable for the simple step-through.
Dustin: How do the handlebars feel? I could tilt them up a little bit.
Olivia: They feel okay.
Dustin: Is that better or worse?
Olivia: No, that's a little better.
Dustin: Better.
Olivia: Yeah.
Dustin: Oh no. Okay. Yeah. Okay. So you can raise and lower the handlebars. You can adjust it. She's got a good upright, back position. Okay. So on this one, your power button's right here in the middle.
Olivia: Okay.
Dustin: And everything else is a little bit similar. Brakes, throttle, level one are you cool going up here, making a loop, and then going down that way? Oh. I think so put push the front pedal down, and then you can get the kickstand up. There you go. Or you can. Good?
Olivia: Yeah.
Dustin: All right, go for it. If you want to go faster, feel free. There you go. What do you think?
Olivia: Feels good. I feel tall.
Dustin: Yeah? All right. Okay. So we got her fit to the 26-inch. Go ahead and dismount and pull your leg through. You have this nice step-through frame. That's the other benefit is with the step-through frame, mounting and dismounting are easy. This has an 11-inch step-through frame here. The seat is in the lowest position, I'm going to get my tape measure so we can give you that. The seat on the simple step-through in the lowest position is 32 inches on this one. So you can see with a 29-inch inseam, that's why she had to be up on the balls of her feet a little bit, but she did it. It worked.
So now the EvryJourney is a 26-inch. Okay. It's got a little bit higher of a step over height, but the seat, actually let me go ahead and just measure this one quick. So we didn't have the seat down on this one for Olivia. I can bring it down even a little bit. So in the lowest position on the 20-inch simple step through, it's only 29 inches. So you can see three inches lower than the 26 inches. Now the EvryJourney has this forward pedaling design where the seat's lower to the ground, but the pedals are moved forward so you get a good leg extension. So I'll be curious to see how you like this one. So I'll put the seat down. And we'll tighten that. Now we'll measure this as well. Now the seat in the lowest position on this one is about 30 and a half. So go ahead and get on this one. Now you can still see her feet are closer to the ground, because the seat's lower than the simple step through 26 inches, and the handlebars are a little bit different.
Dustin: How do you feel about all the adjustments and positioning?
Olivia: Feels good.
Dustin: You can raise and lower, we can tilt, but yeah, she's relaxed back upright so a little bit different screen, same thing in principle. You're in level one right now. Okay. Go ahead and give us a ride. Thoughts, questions, comments? Different?
Olivia: I like it.
Dustin: Yeah?
Olivia: I feel like this is the in-between. Of these two?
Dustin: Of those two. Yeah, and it's a little, yeah, it's lower to the ground.
Olivia: A little high. But still, feel safe.
Dustin: Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
Olivia: I mean, I like it.
Dustin: Yeah? Yeah. How do you compare it to this one?
Olivia: I just, I feel like because it's a little taller, it just makes me, I don't know, feel better.
Dustin: Do you like that it has bigger wheels? Yeah. Okay. But you still feel safe because it's lower to the ground.
Olivia: Because it's lower.
Dustin: Okay. Good to know. So do you have a preference over these two?
Olivia: I think if I were to go home with one today.
Dustin: Well, we still have one more to test. So if you were to go home with one out of these three, what is it so far?
Olivia: That one.
Dustin: So the EvryJourney is winning. Okay. All right. So we have one more here, which is the Relaxed Body, which is so similar to the EvryJourney. Now, this is a semi-recumbent. So the pedals are even moved forward farther forward. So you're going to be even lower to the ground. So try sitting on the seat at this height. OK, so that's pretty good, right? Yeah. How about the handlebars?
Olivia: They feel good.
Dustin: So we can I just want to show everyone. So this one cool thing about the relaxed body is it's super adjustable in terms of what you can do. I can loosen these two bolts up here. Our screen's a little loose there, so you can bring them down, bring them up.
Olivia: Oh, yeah. Maybe here.
Dustin: Okay. Okay. All right, and then from there, I think you may like it a little lower. So let's try to lower it. Oh, boy. Okay, there we go. Better? Worse?
Olivia: Oh, yes.
Dustin: Okay. See, I've been doing this a long time. I know. You tell me it's good, but I know it's not. All right, so that's going to give her a little better control. Okay. Yeah, so this feels better. Cool. Okay. Pedals may, and I'll see if, put your feet on the pedal. Does that feel okay? Yeah? Yeah. Okay. So let's turn it on for you here. So let's just put it in one. Go ahead and take a that's going to be like that. We have to fix that. Take it. What do you think?
Olivia: I like it.
Dustin: Like a more stretched-out feeling?
Olivia: Yeah. The whole design of it is just a different ride.
Dustin: Yeah.
Olivia: I mean, I like it. It's good.
Dustin: Comfortable?
Olivia: Comfortable.
Dustin: Okay. All right, so you can see we could fit and size Olivia at 5'2 of the 29-inch inseam to all of the e-bikes here. But at the end of the day, is the EvryJourney, this one, still your pick?
Olivia: That would be my favorite, yes.
Dustin: And you just liked it because low to the ground, but still had 26-inch wheels, big.
Olivia: Big, but not as big as this one.
Dustin: Yep.
Olivia: That would be my favorite.
Dustin: Yeah. And then this one you still felt safe on, safe on this one. And all of them are easy to get on and off.
Olivia: Yes.
Dustin: Yeah. Any other added comments, thoughts, or ideas?
Olivia: No, I just, I mean, I like all of them. I just think the design of each one makes the ride a little different.
Dustin: Different.
Olivia: Yeah.
Dustin: Can you put into words anything about the ride? Like this one, just a little bit higher up off the ground.
Olivia: Higher, I just felt higher. And for me, being a little lower makes me feel a little safer, so my pick would be just a small one.
Dustin: Fair enough. Cool. Well, there we have it, Olivia's 5'2". She liked the EvryJourney women's, but all three worked for her body and her inseam length. If you want something lower to the ground, the simple step-through 20-inch and the EvryJourney are good choices. The relaxed body is as well, it's just a little longer of a ride. And the simple step through 26-inch, she can still fit into that, but she just felt a little safer being lower to the ground. So if you're 5'2 to 5', take a look at the 20-inch, the EvryJourney, or the relaxed body as a short woman. Those are going to suit you better.
