Best Scenic Bike Rides in Atlanta

When the noise of the city calls for an afternoon off the grid, you don’t have to go too far outside ATL to unplug. Some of the best Atlanta bicycle trails offer changing leaves and sparse crowds – a welcome change from the daily grind. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or want to unwind after work, here are some Atlanta-area trails with scenic views and fresh air:

Noonday Creek Trail

Distance: 7.9 miles

Despite its name, this trail isn’t just good for lunch break rides. The endpoints are Market and Elm Streets in Woodstock and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, making access easy. Not only does the trail deliver scenic views and a paved surface, but it’s a part of the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park trail system. Noonday Creek Trail also leads to urban terrain, so there are lots of places to refuel nearby.

Silver Comet Trail

Distance: 61.5 miles

If challenging Atlanta bike trails are your game, the Silver Comet Trail is just your type of ride. The long trail begins in Smyrna (South Cobb Drive and the East-West Connector) and leads all the way to Alabama. Explore as much of the rail trail as you’d like, then turn around and head back to the city. You’ll hug the path where an upscale railway once traversed this part of Georgia, passing rock cliffs, stately trees, and rushing water along the way.

Arabia Mountain PATH

Distance: 30 miles

You can’t help but slow down amid the serene terrain here. The area is car-free and overflowing with nearly every kind of nature. You’ll cruise past meadows, open fields, rock outcroppings, and fields of wildflowers on your journey. With more than 30 miles of paved trails at your disposal, you can come back again and again and never repeat the same experience twice.

Big Creek Greenway

Distance: 8 miles

This scenic trail has two parts. The northern portion, which runs from Windward Parkway to Mansell Road, sends you through a lush forest atop a paved path. Along the way, you’re bound to encounter a lot of nature. Heron and deer are known to live beneath the rich forest canopy here. If you’re feeling adventurous, you may also want to explore the 10-mile portion of the trail in Forsyth County. In the future, the two portions of the trail will be completed for a single experience along the creek.

If you’re on the hunt for the best bike trail in Atlanta, the answer may live beyond the Beltline. Scenic trails in Greater Atlanta are a great place to get some air, enjoy a festival of changing leaves, and clear your mind.
