Hey everyone. I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and ebike industry, and today I'm going to show you the e-bike Rickshaw and how it can tackle hills with 400 pounds of rider weight. So I've got Colton in the back here. He's 6 foot 2", 180 pounds. I'm 5' 10", 225. So combined, we're just over 400 pounds. I'm going to take Colton on a little ride to the end of the street here. We're going to get to the base of a little hill, and I'm going to show you how the electric rickshaw performs on a hill. So come along with us.
All right. Here we are at the base of our summit. Just kidding. But this is our hill right here. It's a pretty good little incline. So I'm going to get us both up there, and I have to use pedal assist. The throttle won't be enough in and of itself for this type of hill, but we'll be able to do it. So, Colton's all cozy back there and strapped in. So let's go ahead and do this. Shift it into pedal assist 5. Get your bike into gear 1. And we're off and running.
Now, I'd like to point out that there's absolutely zero chance I'm getting up this hill with Colton without a motor. So, that in and of itself is pretty cool. So, I'm in level 5 and gear 1. And you're probably nice and comfortable back there.
Colton: Yeah. [Inaudible 00:01:53].
Dustin: All right.
I made it. A little bit of traffic there. No problem. So, it's not easy. It's, out of 10, it's about a 4 out of 10 of exertion. The pedal assist helps. Colton's a big guy. So we're going to go ahead and cross the street here.
Now, we'll just do this hill too, if you see right here. Just a small hill. I'll show you how easy this one is. Now, the other thing when you're coming down these big hills, engage both the brakes so you can ease down the hill. All right. I'm going to make a quick U-turn right here. Okay. Use my throttle. Now, the lighter the load, the easier these hills will be.
All right, so this is about a 2 out of 10 for exertion. All right. Now let's go back down this big hill, and we'll show you how, if we just keep the brakes going and whatnot, it'll be perfectly safe. Okay. Here we go. Try to find a brake in the cars. And I'm going to stay off the motor on the way down. All right. So I'm easing into the brake, so we're at about 12 miles an hour. I want to make sure Colton feels safe back there. We're at 14 miles an hour. Going to run over some shrubs. Yep. All right, almost 15. Start to pull them a little bit more as we come into the turn.
Colton: Seatbelts work great.
Dustin: Yeah? Keeping you strapped in?
Colton: Yeah.
Dustin: All right. Back to flat ground. All right.
Colton: Yeah.
Dustin: So, kind of relaxing, huh? Enjoyable.
Colton: I felt confident [inaudible 00:05:43]. Think it was fine.
Dustin: Cool. So we made it up the hill with Colton. We made it down the hill with Colton, which I think is also another point about being safe on the Rickshaw because, arguably, the downhill could be more risky if you don't take it correctly, and ease the brakes correctly. But Colton enjoyed the ride. The seatbelt held up.
