Can I go 10 miles on my e-trike by just using the throttle? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today we're going to answer the question, can I go 20 miles on my e-trike by just using the throttle? Whole different, tons of different variety, ranges, you name it. Now, I'm not doing a demonstration today because of the throttle concept and the question, can you go 10 miles on your e-trike by just using the throttle? Number one, if you have experience using your e-trike and just using a throttle, please put it below in the comments section. I want to hear everyone's story of the ranges that they get and how the throttle on their e-trike works. But as opposed to demonstrating, because the answer to the question is, yes. I've gone over 20 miles on my e-trike by just using the throttle. Now, it's a little more complicated than that, though, because to answer that question, can you go 10 miles on your e-trike by just using the throttle? It's going to depend on many factors, and I would venture to say that most e-trikes could make it 10 miles by just using the throttle under the right conditions. Now, the right conditions would be flat ground, a rider that weighs no more than 175 pounds, and also. Well, mostly just those two, actually, and also having the right tire size. Now, even if you have fat tires, you're typically going to have a large battery. So the two biggest factors to achieving more than 10 miles by throttle only is going to be the terrain and the weight of the rider. Now, if you start tossing in hills, are you going to make it over 10 miles by throttle only? I don't know. Then it's going to depend on the type of hills and, again, the weight of the rider, do you have any cargo on board also how big of a battery do you have? Now, the reason I say flat ground is because in most e-trikes, the batteries are matched up to the motor size. The other thing, too, is you don't have to push full throttle, right? It's like a gas pedal on a car. The more conservative you are with your acceleration and your top speed, the more range you get. The same is true of a throttle on an e-trike. The less acceleration, you'd give it, the more range you'll get. The more conservative you are in the top end, the more range you'll get as well.
So the answer is yes, you'll be able to get 10 miles of range. Can you get 10 miles of range on the rides that you're gonna do? We don't know. And quite honestly, it's only gonna be up to you to figure that out. We've done some test rides and examples. I've gone over 10 miles with throttle on all these e-bikes here. I do have a video of Evryjourney of me going over 20 miles using throttle only. I also have some videos on our e-bikes, not our trikes, testing out the range as well. The Rickshaw, I've gone 10 miles, not with passengers, throttle only, but by myself on some flat ground terrain as well. So for you to figure out exactly how far you can get on your trike throttle only, you're going to have to get out there, ride, and test it on the type of rides that you do and then you'll be able to know now one other idea is you could stay close to home try some different terrain by you so in case you do drain the battery or take it out for a ride and then when you get the battery to get lower maybe to halfway you could figure out. Okay, so I got about x miles at half a battery you could use some math and sort of figure out based on your terrain the range you're going to get so I wish there was a more exact science, but the throttle and the battery juice depends on so many different factors, which is why when you get your e-trike for the first time like I said, hit an odometer, track your rides on a phone so you can get an idea of how did you use it. Also, you could make some notes on that ride. So, OK, this ride, I did the throttle at this mile per hour. We went up some hills and here's the range I got. Over time, you're going to get familiar with exactly the range you're getting out of your throttle. Now, if you want complete reassurance, buy an extra battery, and travel with an extra battery, then you really won't have to worry about the range as much and you'll be guaranteed to get over 10 miles because you'll have two batteries and one you can swap out with a full charge should you drain the battery completely.
