Do I Have to Pedal an Electric Bike | E-Bike Questions

Hey guys, Dustin here, CEO of SixThreeZero. Today, we're going to answer the question, "Do I have to peddle an electric bike?" Stick around.

All right. So today we're going to answer the question, "Do I have to pedal on an electric bike?" And the answer to this is, depends on the type of electric bike that you have. There are two types of... Well, there are three types of electric bikes as classified by California, but the variance has to do with speed, but there are basically two types of electric bikes. There are electric bikes that are only powered if you peddle, and there are other electric bikes that have a throttle that can power it without pedaling, or you can peddle it and also power it that way.

So two different versions are classified in two different ways, different cities, national parks, like that have different requirements around what type of electric bikes can be ridden in different areas. So some that are throttle can't be ridden in some areas. Some that have top speeds up to 28 can't be ridden in some areas.

But the question we're answering today is, do you have to pedal an electric bike? And the answer is no if you have an electric bike that has a throttle. It's interesting, in Europe all electric bikes are only pedal assist, but in the US as it stands today, you can have both options. So a lot of times what you're going to see is with the pedal assist on electric bikes, on one of the classifications, you can technically go as fast as 28 miles an hour if you're pedaling. If you use the throttle, you're only allowed to go 20 miles an hour.

So it is limited by speed. And the choice is yours if you want an electric bike that can do both. If you want to have a bike where sometimes you don't have to pedal, it's nice to have that throttle. So just be mindful, like on SixThreeZero e-bikes, we offer both options. So we offer the throttle plus the pedal assist. So you can choose. You can either engage it while pedaling, or you can also turn the motor off completely and ride it as a normal bike.

But the throttle is nice to have if you go for a good long ride. Let's say you ride 20 miles and you just want to come home using the throttle and not have to work hard and tire out your muscles. So that's a great option to have. I love it, it's a lot of fun. You can take a look at all the SixThreeZero e-bikes on our website.
