Can I make it uphill on my e-trike by just using the throttle? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today I'm going to show you if I can make it up a hill on my e-trike by just using the throttle. All right, I'm on the Simple Step-Thru Fat Tire E trike. Cool trike with four-inch wide tires, and a 750-watt front hub motor. So it's very powerful. And we're gonna take on this hill right here. And I'm going to try to just use the throttle to get me up, no pedaling whatsoever. I'm 230 pounds. And the trike itself weighs about 90 pounds. So we're going to show you if you don't have to pedal at all to use the throttle to get up this hill. Very stable trike with these four-inch wide tires, like I said. So if you're looking for something stable and powerful, it's a great option. Now we have a twist throttle here. So you twist it to go like so. And as I said, it's a front hub motor. So let's go ahead and give this hill a shot and see if we can't get up it without pedaling.
All right, we're off. You can track my miles per hour if you like. All right, so far so good. We're moving at a really good pace. And there's lots of pine cones here. I'm just going to run right over them with these big tires. Look at this. I'm going to hit this one. Yep. That's something, too, in the street. You never know what you're going to encounter. Having these big, wide tires is nice. All right, so we made it up the hill with no problem by just using the throttle. If you are someone who weighs about 215 pounds and more and you're looking to have an e-trike where you can just use the throttle to get up the hill, you're going to want to look at a 750-watt motor. Someone 215 and below to get up hills, depending on the type of the hill, 500 watt or 250 is also an option. If you're someone in the 150 to 180 or below range, you could probably just use throttle only. Again, it all depends on the type of hill. So you can see again for me, the throttle was no problem. I zipped up about 10 miles an hour on average. Makes it easy. Now remember, if you do that, you are going to drain your battery pretty quickly by using the throttle all the way up the hill.
