Does the weight of your e-trike matter? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry and today I'm gonna answer the question, does the weight of your e-trike matter? All right, right here, I've got the Simple Step-Thru Fat Tire e-trike. This is a 750-watt e-trike, which is huge, top speed of 16 miles an hour. Now, a lot of you are shopping for e-trikes out there, and you're wondering about the weight, possibly, and does the weight of your e-trike matter. The answer is yes, depending on what you're buying your e-trike for. Now, if you're going to be transporting it a lot, putting it on a rack a lot, it may to you be the number one thing that you are looking for in an electric trike. Now, we have some other models that weigh a lot less.
This one's going to weigh 90 pounds. We have other e-trike models that weigh as little as 60 pounds. So putting it onto a rack on the back of a car, if you have to do that, and that's important to you, then yes, the weight is going to have a big impact on you. Now, will the weight matter on your daily rides? Yes and no. Now, of course, if you're going up big hills and you have a heavier e-bike or e-trike, should I say, then the weight of the e-trike will impact getting that e-trike up the hill. In the case of this e-trike, we've just compensated by putting a larger motor on it. So a heavier e-trike, we have a 750-watt motor. So as you go up hills or around town, you're not going to notice that much difference. In fact, on flat ground, you're going to notice no difference at all between the lightness of your e-bike and another e-bike, because quite honestly, if you have a powerful motor, it's going to make up for the weight of the trike. Now, uphill, we do have other options. We have this e-trike and we have a EZ Transit 750 watt.
The EZ Transit 750 absolutely can get up the hill faster with its 750 watts because it's almost 30 pounds lighter than this one, with much smaller tires. So the motor can power it up the hill quicker. But we've got four-inch wide tires here that add a lot of stability and also off-road capability. So you just have to figure out what is most important to you and what is most important for your riding needs. Now in the transportation element also, some racks have ramps. So if that's something you're considering, you can get hitch racks that have ramps so you don't have to lift it on there and you can drive it up onto the ramp. And you can use the throttle to assist you in driving it onto the ramp. That's another way where you can eliminate, not eliminate, what's the word I'm looking for? You can make the weight irrelevant if you can find a way to get it on the rack so you don't have to strain yourself. So you will feel some impact with the weight of your e-trike going uphill, but just ensure you have a bigger motor. As I said, we have the 750 watts here, going to get riders up to 300 pounds around town and up hills.
Me, I'm 230 pounds and this thing zips me up hills with no problem also very very stable but if you're looking for something small compact and a lot lighter maybe that folds we have that option also. And there's other options out there as well if transporting putting in the back of a car and lifting is something you're going to commonly do then definitely opt for something on the lighter side.
