All right, so let's jump into the topic of electric bikes with child seats. From what I know, most electric bikes do not come with child seats. Most child seats are purchased aftermarket and installed on the electric bike. What I'm seeing is a lot of electric bikes now that come with rear racks permanently welded to the frame, and then you can install a child seat on top of the frame. But again, the child seat didn't actually come with the bikes. So from what I know, most electric bikes don't come with a child seat.
Now there's a benefit to this actually. The bikes that are coming with the welded rear rack, those generally only work with one type of child seat, one brand of child seat. So if you don't love that child seat, you're going to be limited to using that one that will fit on the welded rack that comes on the bike. There are some other companies, I think, that exist, child seats that can install on any rack. You would just have to search for them if you buy a bike with that rack that's welded to the frame.
The advantage to buying another child seat that comes with its own rack, you can choose an any electric bike you want and just use the rack that's supplied from the child seat company. Most child seat companies come with a rack that you put on, then you put the seat on top of it. Again, personal preference. The only thing is if you're looking for a very specific bike and it doesn't come with a child seat, you can purchase this aftermarket. If you buy the one with the welded rear rack, you're limited on your choices for the actual company.
What you want to also make sure is if you're going to buy an electric bike and it has a rack, is that rack removable so you can then put the rack from the child seat company on there and use anyone you want? If the electric bike actually has a rear rack, but it's not welded, it's just attached with screws and you can remove it, then you could take that rack off and swap it for any rack with any child seat, basically.
The other option is to do a trailer. I personally like the trailers a little bit better. I feel like they're safer, especially for smaller kids. They have a shell to them. They can wear their helmets. They're harnessed in. And in the rare case if the bike tips over, your son or daughter is not going to be on the bike with you. They're going to be in a trailer. They'll be safe back there. Or if you were to crash the bike, they'd be in the trailer, again, safer back there. You can put the cover over the top of them. Make sure they wear their helmets in there. So I'm a believer in a child trailer with e-bikes. I think they're safer. I personally do it with my children. I also have done the child seat with them, but in most cases, I'm going to put them in the trailer when on my e-bike.
