A recumbent e-bike allows seniors can get exercise. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today I'm gonna show you a recumbent e-bike that's great for seniors to get exercise on. The Relaxed body e-bike this has a 500-watt rear hub motor. A lot of seniors are getting electric bikes and they're utilizing it to get out, get exercise, and just enjoy the day, and e-bikes are actually a great way to get exercise because you can utilize the electric assist as little or as much as you want. It can help you ride farther than you've ever ridden. It can also help you take on different terrain that you may not otherwise be able to take on without having a little bit of electric assist. The key if you're a senior rider is finding an e-bike that's going to suit your body and your needs. There are tons of different motor sizes and electronics out there. But I think one of the keys, first and foremost, is finding an e-bike that fits your body and makes you feel safe when you're going out there for rides. So, the Relaxed body in particular, I think, is an excellent choice for a couple of different reasons. Now, there are different degrees of recumbent e-bikes, right? A recumbent bike, in my mind, is a bike that has the pedals shifted out in front of the rider's body. So instead of pedaling directly below your body, you're pedaling out in front of your body. You can see on the Relaxed body, the pedals are shifted forward about 14 inches, right? On a typical bike, you're going to be pedaling directly below your hips. When you are pedaling directly below your hips on a regular upright bike, you've got to have the seat up fairly significantly to ensure you get proper leg extension while you're pedaling.
The beauty of a recumbent is you can be lower to the ground and still get proper leg extension when riding while being lower to the ground. That is a feature many, many seniors like because when you're lower to the ground, you feel safer. Your feet can be flat when you're stopped and overall less stressful. And I think the key, actually, I just said it is safer, right? You have more control of the bike and not only that, more comfort, right? You've got a nice, you're feet are outside of your body, you're relaxed. It just feels like overall a good position to be in. Now, don't forget also this lower bar is going to be much lower on a recumbent. This is 13 inches off the ground, so it's easy to get on and off, and you can see how low the seat can go as well. Makes the mounting and dismounting very simple, I believe the height of this is about, I want to say 27. 28 inches. We do have other videos if you want to find out more where I take all the specs and go through all the details. But you can just see by looking at it how low the seat can go, how easy it is to mount and dismount, you can step through. Now, you're right on the bike, it's also very adjustable with these mini ape hanger handlebars. Bring them into your body or away from your body, depending on how long or short your arms are. It's just a very comfortable and safe e-bike. The cool thing, if you're not familiar with e-bikes, is you can utilize the pedal assist to get out and get exercise as well. So if you haven't ridden a bike in many years and you've lost some strength in your legs, no problem. That's the beauty of the electric assist, right? Utilize that assistance.
You can use a higher level of assistance as you're getting your legs back into bike riding shape, and then as you get more in shape, you can dial back the assist and let you do more of the work, or let your body provide more of the power. Totally up to you, It's a great way to get out and ride, and you don't have to have the stress of knowing, Can I pedal? Can I pedal? Do I have the leg strength, right? The electric can ease your mind, allow you to get back into it, and get great exercise and workouts in.
