How Long Will an EBike Battery Last? When Will You Need to Replace Your Electric Bike Battery

How long will your e-bike battery last? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today we're going to answer the question, how long will your e-bike battery last? Alright, you're thinking about buying an e-bike or you have an e-bike and you're wondering, how long will my electric bike battery last? Now I'm talking about the actual lifetime of the battery, not the range of the battery. And this is a complex question to answer in that usually the lifetime of the battery is based on how many times you charge it and deplete the battery. Our batteries are going to give you 500 cycle charges. So that means depleted to charge. Now, it's very possible that your battery lasts longer than that. It's also not impossible to say your battery will go shorter than that. So a lot of things are going to impact the lifetime of the lithium-ion battery. If you overcharge it, leave it on the charger, the storage conditions, the heat, the cold, if you drain the battery all the way down, which is not good for a lithium-ion battery. Also, your usage, the kind of usage, outdoor temperatures it's used in, all of those things can play a factor in it. So it's hard to put a timeline on the battery because, for someone who's riding more and charging more, the battery is going to last a shorter period of time versus someone who's riding less.

The battery may last for five, six, seven, eight, or nine years. So obviously the more miles you're logging, the more you're charging it, and the shorter the time lifespan for the battery. Now, this doesn't mean the battery has a shorter lifespan, it's just the lifespan is condensed in a shorter time period because it's being used more. Sorry that was a long explanation, but I know that probably makes sense. I would say a general expectation, minimally, is two to three years on the lifetime of your battery. Now, with that said, I see riders that are going 10,000 miles in a year, if not more. Not impossible to say your battery won't last a year. So, again, find a good brand. At sixthreezero, we stock batteries that you can buy as replacements. A lot of the bike batteries are specific to the brand and the manufacturer. So you either want to make sure they have them available on the website or if it's a battery that can be found in other places, make sure you have a source. Because if the battery dies but everything else is good on the e-bike, you want to be able to keep using that e-bike if you replace the battery. So I hope that helps. I know it's not a simple answer.
