What is the lowest step over the height of an electric bike? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry, and today I'm gonna show you and talk to you about the lowest step over height of an electric bike.Right here, I've got the Simple step-through e-bike from Sixthreezero, the 26-inch version, and the 20-inch version, and they also have the lowest step-over height of any e-bike on the market. The 26-inch version comes in four colors, cream, teal, navy, and black, and the 20-inch version comes in two colors, navy and black. What is the lowest stepover height? Well, on the 20-inch version right here, it is 9 inches, and on the 26-inch version, it's 10 and a half inches. The reason I know these are the lowest possible stepover heights is a couple of things. Number one, in order to get this low of a stepover height, you have to swoop the frame down lower than the actual point of the crank right here. On a typical bicycle, you're gonna see that the frame is equal to the location of the crank. You can see the frame actually dips lower than the crank, a very unique feature.
The other thing I will show you here is that you need clearance underneath your e-bike, right? There's gotta be some amount of clearance here for bumps and other things. Now, is it possible to take this lower? Maybe, but you do start to run the risk of scraping the ground or hitting things because you do want to have a certain amount of clearance. So taking that very, very tight to the ground may not be a really good option. The other thing I'll say is that most other bikes that advertise a step over, the frame connects down to the crank, and like I said, now you're raising it up and creating a higher step over. So the lowest I've ever found, the 26-inch version is 10 and a half, and the 20-inch version is nine. What you're gonna find is even on smaller e-bikes, other 20-inch models, the 26-inch version of the Simple step-through is still going to have a lower step over height because, like I said, of how the frame comes below the crank. So, it's a really cool feature.
If you find another e-bike out there, a lower step over, you can let me know. But I've never seen anything lower than these two. Like I said, 9 inches on the 20-inch, 10 and a half on the 26-inch.
