How to Turn On an Electric Bike | Electric Bike Safety Tips

Hi guys. It's Alanna here with Sixthreezero. We are going over e-bike basics today. Specifically, we'll be showing you how to turn on your e-bike.

Okay, so you're ready to ride your e-bike for the first time. You've got your bike assembled, tires inflated, batteries charged. Now you've got to turn it on. So first, what you'll do is insert the battery if it isn't already inserted. To do that, you're just going to slide it in. You'll have to turn the key to fully insert it, and from there, you can remove the key. Make sure you remove the key. Otherwise, it might bounce around, and then the battery could potentially slip out. But anyway, the battery's secure, keys removed. Next, you are going to power on the battery. There's a switch here at the back. You just flip that switch. Now, the battery is ready to go, but the motor still isn't on. So before turning the motor on, I like to mount the bike. So, helmets on.

Okay, your helmet's on. You're ready to ride. Now you just have to mount the bike. We have a whole video on mounting an e-bike, but one safe way to do so is by grasping the front brake, the left-hand brake, and just swinging your leg over. So now you're mounted. You know that your bike is adjusted to your liking, and you're ready to turn the motor on. The reason I like to mount before turning the motor on is because if you turn the motor on before mounting, you could accidentally hit the throttle. That could lurch you forward and just end up in an accident. So I always like to do it after I'm already mounted.

So now, to turn it on, you are going to hold down the power button right here, and you'll see the display light up. Now it's on. You can see your battery level. Make sure that you have enough charge. And you can see that you start on pedal assist level one. That's a good place to start if you're just getting used to riding an electric bike. It's not going to give you too much of a boost at first, and then you can adjust as you get more comfortable with it. From here, sometimes, I like to just hit the throttle gently to get an idea for the feel of it. And you can just start biking from there.

Thank you for watching. Hopefully, this was helpful to you if you're just getting started out with an e-bike. We will be covering all the different steps to riding an e-bike, so stay tuned for those videos coming soon. Thanks for watching. Remember, it's your journey, your experience. Enjoy the ride.
