Lightest & Lowest Step Thru Electric Bikes: Lightweight & Easy to Mount These EBikes are a Must See

The lightest step through e-bikes. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today I'm going to show you the lightest step through e-bikes. Okay, right here I have the Simple step-through e-bike, a 26-inch version, and a 20-inch version, two of the lightest step-through e-bikes out there. Now, there may be lighter step-through e-bikes out there, but I want to mention two caveats. One, you're not gonna find a lower step-over height, you may find a little bit lighter, but these have the lowest step-through height, and I'm gonna measure it and show you here in a second. Secondly, if you find something lighter, it's most likely going to have a smaller battery or motor size, or it's going to be made of carbon fiber, which is going to make it a much more expensive e-bike. Both of these have an aluminum frame, and the unfortunate, not necessarily unfortunately, when it comes to the weight of an e-bike, you always have to have a battery and a motor. That's what sets it apart or makes it heavier than a standard bicycle. Now, you obviously can make the frame out of steel or aluminum. Aluminum is going to be lighter than steel. Now carbon fiber is an option as well. In the recreational space, you're not really going to see carbon fiber e-bikes. And if I had to venture to guess, carbon fiber e-bikes are going to be north of $3,000. If you can prove me wrong, and if you do want to get lighter, oftentimes you're going to shrink the bike down, right?

Smaller frames and smaller wheels equate to fewer materials and a lighter weight. So these are two of the lightest with the lowest step-throughs, also based on these configurations. Let's start with the 26-inch version. So this weighs 58 pounds with the battery on, and 50 pounds without the battery on. Now, again, that's relatively light in the scope of e-bikes. When you talk about many e-bikes, they're going to be north of 60 pounds, if not 70 pounds, especially if they have really big batteries, and there's a 500-watt rear hub motor. 10.4 amp hour battery, so you can go up to speeds of 20 miles an hour, whether in pedal assist or by using the throttle and you can go up to 50 miles on a single charge, depending on how you utilize the electric, whether you use the throttle a lot or the pedal assist, that's going to dictate your range. Now, you can tell by looking at this, it has a nice open frame, and this is a true step-through design. Many e-bikes or bikes advertise themselves to be step-throughs. However, when you have to lift your leg this high, is it really a step through? Well, in terms of what the market says, there are a lot of brands that do advertise them as step-through. In my opinion, a true step-through is where you can actually step through the frame. Now, in terms of this height, on a 26-inch, you will not find a lower step-through height than this. And this comes in at 10 and a half inches, so easy to mount and dismount to get on and off. Great safety feature because if you need to get off the bike at a given time, also if you come to a stop and you want to put your feet down really easy now moving over to the 20-inch, this is three pounds lighter, so comes in at 55 pounds, 47 pounds without the battery. So again, that is very light on the spectrum of weights of e-bikes. Now you're only saving three pounds between the two of these, but that three pounds could be the difference for many between being able to lift it and not lifting it. Now the step-over height on this one is eight and a half inches. This is extremely low, and you can see how easy it is to get your foot and your leg through the frame to get on and off this e-bike. 

The really cool thing is you can also raise and lower the seat and the handlebars to accommodate riders 4'11 to 6'2. The motor and the battery are the same as the 26-inch version. So you still have that power just in a more compact, lightweight design. So it's a really, really cool option if you want something very light and very easy to control. So these are, without a doubt, two of the lightest step-through e-bikes that exist out there. But again, the other nice feature of these is the open frame. Both are very easy to control. The weight does not feel overbearing. It's a great, safe e-bike if you're looking for something simple and easy to ride.
