A reverse electric trike? Good for short riders.
Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry, and today I'm going to show you a reverse e-trike that's awesome for short riders. And I'm joined by Olivia here, who's 5'2". She's going to get on. She's never ridden this reverse e-trike before in her life. So you're going to see it on camera for the first time, her experiencing it. Now, I know there are shorter riders who are 4’11”, 5’2”, and, 5’3” that sometimes struggle with finding the right e-bike or e-trike. So that's why we brought Olivia here today to show us. She's five foot two and she's got a 29-inch inseam. And the cool thing about this reverse trike is how easily adjustable it is. And this is a 750-watt rear hub motor. So actually it can accommodate riders up to six foot four, and 300 Pounds, and we have another video sizing for a taller rider as well if you want to check that out on our YouTube channel. So today we want to see Olivia get sized to it, and then also we're going to witness the first ride so you can see how easy it is to ride this reverse e-trike.
Dustin: All right, are you ready?
Olivia: Yes.
Dustin: Okay. All right, let's see. I'll put this down. So the cool thing is, is we've got, I'll show, we got double seat posts here, so actually this can come high up if you want it to. Now for her, we don't want it up there. So let's go ahead and tighten this bottom one. Bring this one down for her here and lock this in. Okay, go ahead and try that. Step through the frame, be easier to get on.
Olivia: Okay.
Dustin: Yeah, there you go. So yeah, it's maybe too low or good. It looks pretty good.
Olivia: Yeah.
Dustin: Cool. And we could bring the seat down even more if we needed to.
And again, Olivia has a 29-inch inseam, which I think is pretty common with riders, say, 5' to 5'2". So if you had a 28-inch inseam, you'd be good on this as well. Okay, what about the handlebars? So we can make some adjustments up here, too. I can tilt them more into your body. So let me grab a tool. And we'll do that. Okay. So on the handlebars here, you can raise and lower, but you kind of liked them a little higher, right?
Olivia: Yes.
Dustin: Right there. Feels better. And then we have two bolts here that we can loosen.
Olivia: Oh, it's pretty cool.
Dustin: Where do you like it? Probably right here. Okay. So we tighten those up. And this is what makes it so easy to adjust for different rider heights. Okay. So from there, just that easy. She's all-sized, fit, and ready to go. Now we're going to put a helmet on her and you're going to witness her first ride. Don't look at me. You can look at them. You're going to see her first ride. So we'll get her all suited up. We'll be off and running.
Olivia: What are all these buttons?
Dustin: So Olivia just asked me, what are all these buttons? So we're going to walk her through everything. So on the front left here, you've got your power button. So if you push and hold that middle button, go ahead and push and hold it. Now you can let go. So now her screen comes on here. Now, if this is zero, none of the electricity will work. Okay. So you're safe right now. This is your throttle right here. You can use that. If you do that, ease into it. Don't just give it a full push because you'll be off and running. For anything to work, this needs to be in level one. So if you start pedaling when you're in level one, you'll feel the assistance. You can also, as you're riding, push this up. Yep.
Olivia: Okay.
Dustin: Yep. So you've ridden an e-bike.
Olivia: Yes.
Dustin: Just a refresher course. Yes. Any other questions?
Olivia: I think I'll be okay.
Dustin: Okay. First time on a two-front wheel. Yep. Here you can. Yeah. Oh yeah. Put the kickstand up.
Olivia: Okay.
Dustin: So you're only in level one right now. So your lowest power.
Olivia: Okay.
Dustin: Put it higher. There you go. Also, we can, if you turn around and come back here, I'll show you something else. Oh my. How does it feel steering with the two front wheels?
Olivia: Good. Really Good.
Dustin: You can use the brakes too, not your feet. Okay, so the reason you're pedaling so fast is you're in the lowest gear. So it's a seven-speed derailleur. So try one more time, and while you're moving, click this button. It's going to make it harder to pedal, but it's going to make it more in sync with the assistance. So try that and then try the throttle once you get up and moving a little bit too.
Olivia: Okay.
