Seniors, the seat on your e-bike might be too low. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today, seniors, I'm talking to you and I'm going to explain to you why the seat on your e-bike might be too low. All right. Let's say you have an e-bike or you're shopping for an e-bike. One of the things I commonly see with riders in the senior category when they come to ride with us is that they often put their seat too low. Now, the reason that's commonly done is because they want the seat to be low to the ground. So they can feel safe. They don't like to be up high and unbalanced and feel tippy, but what happens when we do that is their legs get really cramped when they're riding. So it's this trade-off between getting the actual good leg extension you should have and feeling safe on the bike. Because to get the correct seat height on a bike, you're typically supposed to be up on your tippy toes so you get the right leg extension, but being up on your tippy toes, especially for our senior riders, doesn't feel safe when you stop or when you start going. It's hard to control the bike, especially with e-bikes, because they're heavy.

Being up on your tippy toes makes everything more top-heavy and creates more risk of tipping over. So I see commonly many seniors have their seats too low because they're keeping it low for safety, but they're compromising comfort and the proper leg extension on their rides. The answer to that is a forward pedaling e-bike that allows you to have the seat lower, but because the pedals are moved forward, you can get proper leg extension when riding. It's not going to be good if you have that seat low on a traditional bike and your knees are coming up into your chest, and you're trying to get that safety, eventually, you're gonna get sore knees as you ride, right? You want to get that proper leg extension when you go out for a ride. Now you can see these are all forward pedaling designed e-bikes. The Relaxed body here has a 14-inch forward pedaling design. This allows the seat to be lower to the ground. The seat in the lowest position is actually 29 inches, but you get that proper leg extension because of the pedals being moved forward.

EVRYjourney is the same thing, 29 inches, lowest point. And 9 inches of forward pedaling. So again, lower to the ground, and have your feet flat when stopped so you can control the e-bike safely, but then when you ride, you get that forward pedaling and you get the proper extension. So really you can have the best of both worlds. The outside bikes are the Simple step-throughs that have very low step-through frames. Those have 4 inches of forward pedaling. So if you are somebody who still likes the feel of an upright e-bike, but wants a little bit of the forward pedaling, those two are options as well.If you want something where you can be truly flat-footed, the EVRYjourney or the Relaxed Body are great. I mean, when you want to be flat-footed when stopped, but still get that leg extension when riding. So don't choose an e-bike that you like, that you have to lower the seat and cramp your body up to feel safe.

Choose something that can be both safe and give you the proper fit for your body and legs. The Simple step-throughs 20 inch Relaxed body EVRYjourney and Simple step through 26 inch. And if you go to our YouTube channel, I've done other videos on these as well that you can check out. Now, if you have any other questions at all, reach out to us at theteam@sixthreezero.com or call us at 310-982-2877.
