Shopping for a Bicycle? 5 Reasons You Should Consider an EBike: Electric Bikes Are Awesome!

Shopping for a bicycle? Here are five reasons why you should consider an e-bike. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And are you shopping for a bicycle? Today I'm going to give you five reasons why you should consider an e-bike. All right, at sixthreezero, we produce bikes, e-bikes, e-trikes, you name it. You're gonna see an awesome assortment of bikes, e-bikes, and e-trikes. Now, I have been in the bicycle industry for almost 20 years. Our company was founded in 2005, so we're about just over 19 years old. And we do a lot of recreational bikes. We do a lot of e-bikes and a lot of e-trikes. And I have seen how e-bikes and e-trikes have invigorated the cycling industry and got so many more people into cycling than ever have been before. Now, if you're shopping for a bicycle and looking to get out there and get exercise or just get around town and commute, I've got five reasons why I think you should put e-bikes on your radar and should consider it possibly over getting a regular bicycle. Now reason one and I think is one of the biggest reasons is an electric bike can be ridden just like a regular bike so with an e-bike you have the option to have the motor assist you when you pedal or a lot of them come featured with a throttle you can press and you don't have to pedal at all. The cool thing is, is that you can turn all of that off and pedal it like a normal bicycle. Now, with that said, they are going to be a little bit heavier because you're adding the weight of the battery and the weight of the motor. But on flat ground, you will hardly notice a difference. Now going uphill, you will notice a little bit of difference, but you can use the electric assist to help you get up the hill. So the great thing about opting for an e-bike is you have the option of both worlds. And while you may not think you want or need electricity, I guarantee you that when you use it a little bit, you're gonna love it.

And it's gonna expand the possibilities of what you can do on your e-bike or your bike period. You can ride farther, you can go on different terrains, and it becomes more of a multi-purpose vehicle for not only exercise but also for real commuting, and transportation because that assistance can allow you to get places faster and also carry more weight if you wanna bring cargo or whatever it may be on your e-bike. Okay, the number two reason why you should consider an e-bike, prices are coming down. So a few years ago, e-bikes were exorbitantly priced as they were starting to grow in the market during COVID. They've started to come down in price and now you can get a great e-bike for $1,000 to $2,000. Now, $1,000 to $2,000 may seem like a lot as I said initially, but for what you get out of an electric bike and what you can do with it, it's a great value. In particular, a lot of cyclists will spend no less than $1,000 on a regular bike. And if you were to walk into a bike shop today you're going to find that a lot of the standard bikes and bike shops are going to range starting at $500 to $1,000. So for a little bit more money, you can find a great value e-bike like from sixthreezero or other online brands for $1,000 to $1,500. And now you've just expanded the possibilities of what you can do on your two-wheel bike. So as the prices have come down, it's made them more affordable. So now I think it's more realistic for people to consider an e-bike while also, or when thinking about a regular bike, as opposed to maybe a few years ago, the cost and the expense of it was too high for most people. The other thing too, is there are a lot of online financing platforms that are available today that you can get easily approved for, and you can purchase and break your payments up into monthly payments, which can allow you to pay it over time.

And I think the value you'll get back from your e-bike on a monthly basis will far exceed those monthly payments that you'll have to make to get it. Number two or number three reason why you should consider an e-bike if you're shopping for a bike is I believe e-bikes are better for exercise. I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out. It's like going to the gym and you want a little bit of resistance, but you don't want all the weight placed on there, right? No different than getting on a bicycle. Let's say you're building your leg strength and you're not quite ready to pedal certain places on your own. Well, in a gym, you can decide how much weight, how little, or how much weight you want to put on there. On a bike, if you are going to ride a two-wheel bike, you need to power it regardless. You can't decide how much effort you put in or don't put in, you've gotta power it enough to keep that bike upright, right? So let's just say your legs aren't strong enough. What do you do then? You go for a pedal-assist e-bike. That e-bike can assist you as you are building your leg strength, and getting back into bike riding, and it allows you to not feel the pressure of, oh, my legs are too weak. And I see this all the time with riders getting back into cycling, that yes, they remember how to ride a bike, but their legs have lost some of the strength that they used to have, and it's hard for them to keep that bike upright. So an electric assist e-bike can make that easier, and it can give you time to still get out there, and enjoy the outdoors while you build your leg strength, and you're still getting exercise. Even if your bike's assisting you a little bit, you're getting exercise. Just like if you only put 10 pounds of weights on at the gym, you're still getting exercise, right? Even if you just do it, check the box, you got out, you got exercise for that given day. I don't care what anyone else says out there about e-bikes, and they say it's not exercise or you're being lazy. I disagree. It's a great way to get back into getting upright on two wheels.

All right, number four, and I've kind of mentioned this before, is by adding a throttle to your e-bike, or a pedal assist, you've now turned this e-bike into a full-on mode of transportation. Now, not to say that a standard bike is not a full-on mode of transportation, but when you add a throttle and an assist, pedal assist, this e-bike becomes a true vehicle in a sense, where you can use that electric to get around places. And on a bicycle, under your power, maybe you could only go 10 miles an hour. On an e-bike, now you can go 20 miles an hour. So those short-range trips that you wanna make on your bike, you can get there in half the time. So it becomes a practical means of accomplishing short-range trips. Under five miles in particular, you can get to that store, maybe it was gonna take you 15 minutes on a regular bike, now gonna take you seven and a half minutes, let's say. And that's a big difference if you've gotta go two ways. The other thing about that is now you can carry more weight. So if you want to pick up groceries or you need to take things with you, use the assistance and get there. So how much more practical an e-bike is for the community is amazing and makes it super easy for the rider to bring things with them and get places faster. All right. My fifth and final reason why you should consider an e-bike if you're shopping for a regular bike, it's pretty. Simple. They are a lot of fun. Now, I'm not saying a regular bike isn't a lot of fun, but e-bikes are a whole other level of fun. When you just push that throttle and you don't pedal at all and the wind is in your face, it's like the coolest feeling ever. Now, I love two-wheel bikes. Don't get me wrong. I have a whole assortment of my own, you know, regular bikes that I love as well. But getting on an e-bike is just it's so cool, so fun. I can pedal. I don't have to pedal. I can use assistance when I pedal. I can take on massive hills that I normally couldn't under my power. The smile you have on your face when you get on an e-bike for the first time is something that you'll never forget.

And honestly, I've witnessed it hundreds of times here at our office, watching people test ride for the first time. And if you want to check out those videos, you can see them on our YouTube channel as well. There are lots of them. And I think a lot of people are surprised by how much fun they are when they get on an e-bike. Now, again, you know, if you can afford to have a standard bike and an e-bike, that's an awesome way to go as well. So you have your manual bike and your e-bike. But if you're shopping for a bike and you only want one thing in your garage, I think these five reasons are good enough for you to consider just getting an e-bike. And I feel ultimately, if that's the choice you make, you won't regret it.
