The Best E Bike for a Senior Woman - Wait, I'm not a Senior Woman so How Do I Know This?

The best e-bike for a senior woman.

Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry and today I'm gonna show you the best e-bike for senior women. All right, right here I've got the Simple Step-Thru eBike from sixthreezero and also the EvryJourney eBike from sixthreezero. Two great eBikes for senior women. Now obviously I'm not a senior woman but I have a lot of experience doing test rides with women over the age of 60 and experiencing what they like, what they don't like, and how they like different types of e-bikes. And so I'm going to explain to you with the simple step-thru and evryjourney, what makes these two great e-bikes for women over the age of 60. Now, the other thing I want to talk about is in this age group over the age of 60, what I've also witnessed is that there's a wide range of athletic ability, mobility, and just overall capability on a bicycle.

So, you know, I'm just generalizing here for that age bracket and gender. But there is also the possibility of great, you know, other great options if you feel like, you know, you still have the mobility that you did when you were in your 30s. Okay, so let's talk first here about the simple step-thru electric bike for senior women. Now, you can see right off the bat, what makes this so great is this low step-through frame here. This is 11 inches off the ground. There's not another e-bike I've seen with this low of a step through. But you can see, to mount and dismount, you can just put your foot through the frame and slide back onto the seat like so. And then you can get off and pull your foot right through the frame. Now, huge benefit, obviously, to the mounting and dismounting. Makes it very safe, very easy, and also has peace of mind, right? Because when you're getting off the bike, You don't have to struggle pulling your leg over. The other thing, too, is the classic sort of, you know, mounting tactic for a bike is this leg sweep.

Well, on an e-bike, particularly this one, you have the rack here with the battery. So if you clip your leg on that or clip your knee on that, you know, you could knock the bike down to the ground. Then it's heavy. It might take you with you. So someone over the age of 60, I just recommend something easier to mount. A lot of times, too, for many of the riders that we've done rides with, there's been hip surgery, there's been knee surgery, or there's just general mobility loss where, again, you want this to be easy to get your foot through the frame. Now, another feature is the ergonomic riding position here. So when you step on, you can see my back is completely upright, my arms are relaxed, and the handlebars come into your body so you're not hunched at all, you're upright, you can scan your surroundings, see where you need to go, and be aware of where you're riding, and be able to pay attention, be relaxed, yet be comfortable. The other thing is that the bars come in, right? My wrists don't have to be kinked, my shoulders can be relaxed. It's just a very comfortable ride. In addition, you've got four custom adjustment points up here, You've got two on the handlebars to raise and lower or to tilt. You've got two on the seat to raise and lower and tilt. So by adjusting those, you can find the perfect body position for your body. And again, my experience with many riders over the age of 60 is they want to dial in the bike for comfort.

So this gives you the option with those four custom adjustment points. So find the perfect adjustment for your body and reduce pain during rides and after rides. Now, the electronics, you're gonna get up to 50 miles. You have pedal assist and throttle. Pedal assist means that when you pedal, the motor will assist you as you pedal. A throttle is something you push with your thumb. In some cases, there are also twist throttles. So, it's like a gas pedal. The harder or softer you push this with your thumb, the faster or slower the e-bike goes. Now, this is a choice that you can use the throttle if you want to or you don't have to. Totally up to you. If you want to take a break from pedaling, it's nice because you can rest during rides and use the throttle and essentially power it for you.

Now, you're going to get up to 50 miles. You can also hit speeds of 20 miles an hour with throttle only and 28 miles an hour with pedal assist. Your battery back here is 10.4 amp hours. So, like I said, up to 50 miles of range. Now, that depends on the weight of the rider and also the usage of your pedal assist levels and your throttle. The pedal assist has five different levels. One gives you the least amount of assistance and five gives you the most amount of assistance. So usually you'd reserve level five for hills or if you're on flat ground and you want to go real fast, you can put in level five and level one is going to be used for casual flat ground riding if you just want a little bit of assistance. Now, other than that, you've got front and rear disc brakes, so it's going to stop on a dime. Very safe and very easy to use. These are caliper brakes up here, so very intuitive. Lastly, you have 2.125-inch tires, which are just wide enough to give you some extra balance and also absorb those shocks if you go over the bumps on curbs and things like that.

The tires will absorb a lot of that. So really, great option. I love this bike. The easy, simple step-through, low step-through frame is one of the best options and one of the most popular e-bikes among riders that we know over the age of 60. Okay, moving to the EvryJourney. Now, a little bit different setup here. A lot of the features are still the same. It's a 500-watt motor with up to 20 miles an hour with your throttle, and 28 miles an hour in pedal assist. Battery size is the same up to 50 miles of range, thumb throttle, five levels of pedal assist, like I said, front and rear disc brakes. Now, the biggest differentiator here is a little bit higher of a step over. So if you are concerned about that, you may want to go with the simple step-thru. But the difference here is you have what's called a forward-pedaling design. Now, if you see the pedals are moved forward six inches from the seat here, what that creates is it allows the seat to be lower to the ground while you can still get ample leg extension when riding because you're getting the leg extension by the pedals being moved forward.

So what this is, you can see I can have my feet flat on the ground while mounted on the seat but still get the proper leg extension while I'm riding. And that is because of this forward-pedaling design. So if you're a shorter rider, 5'2 and below, and you have trouble reaching the pedals mounting and dismounting this is a great option because of how low you can put the seat and have your feet flat while stopped it's just a confidence booster you can control the bike easier you can stay balanced now similar upright ergonomic riding positions as well you have four custom adjustment points so you can dial it in perfectly to your body so those features are also the same but this low seat is something very nice if you want to be lower to the ground so you feel safer. And there's a lot of women over the age of 60 that prefer that.
