Top 5 Things You Need to Know About E-Bikes in 2022

Hey guys. Dustin here, CEO of Sixthreezero. Today, I'm going to tell you the top five things you must know about electric bikes in 2022. Stick around.

All right. So today I'm going to tell you the top five things you must know about electric bikes in 2022. But before I do, hit the subscribe button below, and be the first to know about all the new content, and new products we're doing here at Sixthreezero. And of course the giveaways we do for bikes, e-bikes, and accessories. So hit subscribe. All right. So electric bikes are becoming very popular and they're taking over the country, but I've got the five things you must know about electric bikes in 2022. So let's jump right in. Number one, advertised range for e-bikes is just a range and it's not going to be 100% accurate. So the range of an e-bike is determined by four major things. One, the battery size, motor size. Two, the load on the bike, the rider weight, the load you might have in the basket. All of those things are going to affect the range. Number three, topography, are you riding on flat ground, hills?

And then number four, terrain, are you riding on the pavement? Are you riding on the trail? What kind of resistance is the bike encountering? Number five could also be weather conditions like wind, things like that. Those are going to have an effect as well, but in my opinion, not as much as the other four. So when e-bike companies advertise a range, it is really just a range because they have no idea how much the person weighs that's looking at the bike. They have no idea how that person's going to ride. And actually, I forgot to mention one other thing. The other thing is how you ride your electric bike. So are you using pedal assist? Are you using the throttle? If you use the throttle for all the rides, you're going to kill the battery a lot quicker.

If you only use a little bit of pedal assist, you're going to get a lot of range out of that battery. So these ranges quite honestly, there's no accuracy to them at all. It's so much up to how you ride the bike strategically. Do you coast downhills? Do you ride it as a normal bike a little bit? So it's important to know it's just a range, a general range where we feel no matter what, you'll get this amount of miles using electricity, but so many factors that play into it. My suggestion is, is once you get an e-bike start to gauge how much mileage you're getting out of your bike, based on how you are riding it. Now, the number two thing you must know about electric bikes in 2022 is top speeds. Now how fast can electric bikes go? It's going to depend on the motor output. But in California in particular, there are actually laws saying you can't go faster than 20 miles an hour with the throttle and 28 miles an hour in pedal assist.

So anything above that would actually be illegal if you're on a road, or a path, or a bike path in California, some states may be the same. Now, if you get off into trails, mountainous areas that are not regulated by the government or under the government's forest preserve laws or national park laws, you could open it up and go as fast as you want, but the motor's going to really depend on how fast you can go. If you have a 250-watt motor top speed, maybe more like 17 miles an hour, 500 watts and above, you're going to be able to get 20 miles an hour at least. If you have a 750 watt quite honestly, you could probably go 23, 24 miles an hour with the throttle. But again, in California, that's not legal on the streets, but what you should know is 20 miles an hour is going to generally be top speed for 500 watts, 250, 17.

Then depending on how small the tires are, top speeds may drop a little bit. If it's a 20-inch bike, might not be able to go as fast as a 26-inch bike because of the bigger roll on the bigger tires. And this segues perfectly into my number three must-know about electric bikes in 2022. E-bikes are becoming regulated all over the country. Different cities, different states, and municipalities are placing regulations on e-bikes. So please make sure you know in your area how e-bikes can be ridden. I just saw in California recently in some cities close by, San Clemente, where we're based, put some regulations on e-bikes with the paths by the ocean, and then other neighborhoods around here, specific HOAs and neighborhoods are now also regulating e-bikes. So it's really important that you pay attention if you have an e-bike, especially over the next one to two, three years of regulation, unfortunately, is going to be something that continues to happen in the e-bike space.

And what we're seeing right now is it's not much on the federal level, but it's really coming down to the regional city and actually neighborhood level as each pocket, the neighborhood starts to experience their own safety concerns around e-bikes and they're putting things in place to help alleviate that. So please make sure you know how to safely ride in your area. Look up your local laws. Not all e-bikes are made even. Some have just a pedal-assist feature, meaning when you pedal the motor kicks in and gives the assistance. Some have a pedal assist and a throttle feature, meaning you can just push the throttle and the bike goes. So, but it's important to know what are you looking for? What type of e-bike do you want? Here at Sixthreezero, our e-bikes offer both, a throttle and a pedal-assist feature. And then you can of course ride them like a normal bike.

Our bikes right here are 26 inches. So they're going to ride smooth and easy, like a normal bicycle, but it's important for you if you're out looking for an e-bike, to just know that not all e-bikes have a throttle, it's not a set and stone guaranteed thing. So if you're looking for that, look for that feature. Most e-bikes will have pedal assist because that's sort of the standard feature of an e-bike, but just make sure you're getting the features that are best for you and you know what you are looking for. Okay. Number five, and I got one bonus one after number five, number five, the price range on e-bikes can vary greatly. There are e-bikes from $300 all the way up to $15,000. And it's important again, to pay attention to what you need and what you're looking for. When you see bikes that are less expensive, you're generally going to get smaller batteries, smaller motors, and less performance.

As you move up in the price range, you're going to get more features and of course, better battery output, better range, and better performance overall out of the e-bike. So it's important to know that you may not need a $10,000 bike, you may not need a $300 bike, but you have to pay attention to the things that matter. And the things that drive costs the most are like I said, the battery size and the motor size, but there are also intangibles. Like what kind of after-sale service does the company provide. Here at Sixthreezero, we take that very serious and we also stand behind our products. So we do build that into the cost to make sure if customers have issues, we can replace a battery, or replace motors if things don't work properly. If you spend less money, you may get less after-sale service. So that's one thing to consider. After sale service with e-bikes becomes a lot more important than even standard bikes because the initial investment is quite a bit more, depending on the type of bike you're purchasing, e-bikes are generally speaking more expensive than standard bikes.

So that's a big play into price. Again, like I said, battery size, motor size, also just general design and the features of the bike. We have a proprietary, our four custom adjustment points, which is something unique to us, provide value to the customer. So it's a differentiator. We believe that makes our EVRYjourney super comfortable. So that range really depends on what you're going to ride the bike for and need to do with the bike. If you're going to be riding up mountains, you're going to have to spend several thousand to get the kind of motor and battery outputs you're going to need. If you're going to go on flat ground, $2,000 may do well. If you're just going to do one mile, two-mile trips from your car at a train station, three, four, $500 of a folding little e-bike may do the trick.

So the number five thing to know is the price ranges are all across the map. Know the battery sizes, know the company, know the product, and know what you need. Now the bonus last one, number six, e-bikes are unbelievably fun. If you've never ridden an e-bike before I'm smiling already, they are like unbelievable. You get on, you pedal. The bike does all the work. It just, it makes you able to ride so much farther, taking less strain off your body. And it puts so many more people in saddles of bikes that wouldn't otherwise be out there riding. I love to see it. We've got a whole boom going on here and it's amazing. And at Sixthreezero, I'm super happy to be a part of it. And really love to say that we've got the most comfortable e-bikes on the market. So if you're looking for something, that's a lot of fun and easy on your body, look no more, Sixthreezero. Number six, it's fun. And Sixthreezero is the way to go.
