How to install mirrors on your e-bike or e-trike. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry and today I'm gonna show you how to install mirrors on your e-bike or e-trike. All right here I've got the sixthreezero e-bike Rickshaw. And today I'm going to show you how to install mirrors on your electric trike or your e-bike. Mirrors are a great accessory to add because just like a car, it's nice to be able to see behind you. Especially if you have a trike and you have a wider back, you want to see what's going on on the sides. In addition to that, when you're traveling at faster speeds, it's nice to see when you're changing lanes or shifting over on a path, you can see if anyone's coming up behind you before you make a move because it could be dangerous if you cut over and someone's behind you and an accident could occur. So, I've got three options for mirrors here today. One of them is a camera that I'm gonna show you at the end here. There's one option of mirrors I don't have that I wish I had I wanted to show you that mounts on the inside of the handlebar here. Now I'm going to show you ones that go up on the handlebar right here. The other ones I'm talking about actually mount into the end cap here. What I found with the end cap mirrors is I like having those in addition to having the bigger mirror that will go up here. The reason is, is it kind of acts like the smaller mirror that you have on a U-Haul or in a bigger truck. So if you put these end mirrors in, they plug into the end cap, what you would do is take out your end cap, this little black piece. They would go in and you would tighten them. You could put one on either side. I like having those because you can aim them towards the ground.
So especially if you have a trike, It's nice because you can point them down to see your rear, but you can have this one up top here to see behind you in a much broader much broader vision. They are pretty easy and we might make a follow-up video showing you that. So this mirror right here, this one's pretty simple to install. Oops, there go my screws and tools. But you can see it's a round mirror. And if you want to come in closer here, we'll take a look. And the beauty of this one is that it's bendable. So it makes it easy to find the position that's right for you. So we're going to come up here. Now, if you want to come up here and shoot the handlebars. All right. So usually on e-bikes, you got a lot going on up here. Which is why it's nice to have a flexible one so you can find the position. So all we're gonna do is we're gonna mount this right here. Now, if we wanted to, you can move all of this stuff away and put it closer here. The downside of that is then you're moving your shifter and your throttle away from the grip. So I'm just gonna take the Allen key that came with this. So go ahead and loosen the screws. You can see it's just a little bolt here and an Allen key that they provide. And these mirrors are fairly inexpensive. Now the prices are always changing on Amazon, which is where we picked these up. We will hopfefully have our mirrors here shortly, but in the interim, as I said, you can pick these up on Amazon. Pretty inexpensive. I think about 10 bucks a mirror or even less. So we're just gonna bring one of these screws out. You can leave the other one in. Okay, now we've got this out. We're gonna come up here and we're gonna slide this on. Okay. And we're just going to click that back into place like so.
And from there, I'm going to put my screw back in. Okay. And then we just tighten that down. Okay. Okay, got to come over here and tighten the other side. A little bit of a tedious process, but easy nonetheless. Okay, all right, now we're getting somewhere. All right, tighten that down. We have way more to go on this side. Now these should work on just about any handlebar. Okay, getting tighter here. Let's go ahead and turn it this way to get our final tightening done. Now it looks like, okay, we can tighten that a little bit more, but I can do it off-screen. Okay, now you can just simply bend. Okay, and go like that. And now you've got your rearview mirror in place. And from here, so I've got a protective film on there. I'm going to leave that on. Well, let's just pull it off. Okay, now this is kind of a fisheye mirror. So you have a pretty large point of view you can see back there. And I can turn this, I think we're gonna want it to be actually like right about there. And You can angle it, you can also push the mirror-like on a car, you have a little bit of play in terms of how you angle this to find the right position. Okay, you can twist this until you get the spot that's best for you. So these are easy to manipulate and find the position that's gonna work best for you. And that's why I like them. Now there's another type of mirror. Which is like this. Now these look more like a traditional car rear-view mirror. Now this comes in a pack of two. So we'll just go ahead and install one on this side so you can see the difference here. Now these are a little more heavy-duty. These are actually, these are plastic but they're a much thicker plastic. So this one's gonna mount just like this. I've used both. I like them both for different reasons. I like how easy this one is to play with. I do like the shape of the mirror on this one because it's more of a traditional car mirror. Now you've got the same kind of play right here in terms of you can move this, twist it, you can also move it up right here.
And in principle, it's the same. We just take our tool right here. It does come with a nice little glass cleaning and rag if you will. Okay, so we just loosen this. Just make sure if you do buy mirrors, I bought a two-pack here, but if you are buying them on Amazon or other places, it will, if you buy this style, there will be a right and a left. So you have to make sure that you get the correct ones. Okay. So then we just put this little plastic piece on the handlebar right there and there's this little notch, these notches. There are two notches in there, so you just want those to be in there as well. Get our wire out of the way here. Okay. Got that one in. Get that into the hole there. Okay. Now I need to just get my tool in there. Okay, let me just get this turned the correct way. Alrighty. Okay. And from there... Okay. And the same deal. You can find... whatever position is right for you, probably something like that. If you want to shoot in the mirror, they can see how it looks. So I like either this, I mean, definitely having both of these and then I also do like adding the mirrors out here. I wouldn't just use the mirrors that go at the end of the handlebars because I find that it's a little bit low down here. But it is nice, like I said, to have those to see different parts, especially on a trike. So it may seem like a lot of mirrors, but with all four of those mirrors, I felt really good about riding the Rickshaw around town in particular.
All right, now moving on to the last one. This is a camera. And these range in price on Amazon about $30 to $50. You could probably get more expensive ones, and it just has a monitor here. And we can come up here. Let me go ahead and set this all up. So cool thing about this is no real tools are needed to install it. You have a clamping system here. And we would just go ahead and put this wherever you can find space on your e-bike. Okay. Okay, so that, so they give you some extra rubber in here too. So you have to, oh, we have to loosen this. So, oh, well, loosened it a little too much. But you can adjust this rubber here based on your handlebar. So let's see. Okay, so we're gonna pull that in a little farther. And then you come up here. Perfect. Okay. Now from there, we just tighten this down. Okay. Now that's overlapping my display here, but not too bad. And then you can tighten this back bolt on. There you go. Now, you may wanna add some zip ties to this. So let's go ahead and find the perfect spot. So I think I'm gonna try, let's see if I can't. Okay, I can't do that. That would've been good. On a bike, this would be a little bit easier. I was gonna try to fish this through here, but that won't work. So let's try to do this. I'm going to put it right through the wheel well here. Okay, there we go. Alrighty. Okay. Now, based on how much cord we have, you can sort of find a position that will work. We could do it right here on the Rickshaw. Originally, I wanted to try to put it up higher, but let's put it... Let's see if I can get it right here. Let's see. All right, let's see if this will close for us. It may not. If not, we could try right here. Well, we got it to close right there. Okay all right so from there, unfortunately, this is not wireless, so we would need to bring it up here and plug it in.
Now from there, like I said, I would zip-tie this to the frame and I would try to get this as much out of the way as possible. by zip-tying to the frame here. So, I think putting this on this side might be better, but let me just show you quickly. Then you have a power button on the back here. Alrighty. I don't know if you can see that. Now let me see if I can move the camera around a little bit. There you go, you can see it now. So that's the rear of your bike right there. And we can, if you, we can move the camera to get that. Yep, there we go. So that's a pretty good shot right there. So it's a nice thing to have if you want to see fully behind you what's going on at all times. I mean, especially if you're riding a Rickshaw. I mean, this is, you know, almost a vehicle in and of itself. Now, again, I have to probably figure out a better-case scenario for the wire here. Let me Let me give that another shot quickly. Just see if I can't get this better situated. Okay, turn that off. Let's see if I could take this. I think running this under the bike is going to be a better... setup. There we go. And you know what I also think? I think we should try this on our stem. Now again, this is just on the Rickshaw because it's a longer base. You shouldn't have this same issue on a regular e-bike. Let's see if I can get that in there. Beautiful. There we go. Okay, now... It might be a little... Let's see. Well, that's a good option, or let's see. Can't quite get the angle there. Let's go to option three here really quick. Now the easy, the good thing is that this is very easy to adjust and find the right spot. Okay. All right. So that's a good option. Now the cable will be in between your legs, but I can have my monitor right here. Yeah, I mean, I like that. I don't know if you guys can see. Yeah, you can see the screen. Let me see here. Let me try... So I got my screen, my display up here.
And yeah, I don't know if you can... A little bit hard to see, but there you go. Okay, turns out we do have the bar end mirrors here. So you can see it's a little round mirror and there is a right and a left. So this would be, I mean, I suppose you could put it into either side, but I think the idea is to have them face up. So, Now, again, I like to have these because what you can do is these can be your higher one. You could take these and kind of put them down, especially if you have a trike. It's nice to look there or you can put it back at your passenger. If you have a passenger back here, this one could be what you keep looking at them with. And this one can be behind your bike. So there's a lot of options here. OK, so on our e-bike, we've got these plugs in here. So what you would do is you'd come in. Come in there and just pop the plug off. Now. This is just a plastic piece. Could vary based on what type of e-bike you have. And you just stick these in, like so. And we need to take our Allen key. And see, okay, and you just put that in right there. And we're going to tighten this, and it's going to expand on the inside, at which point it's going to fit in there. And we can also, I mean you can, you can play with this. You can rotate these in any direction you want. And let's just tighten that in. And then from there, you can find what's right for you. So like I said, if you want maximum visibility, you've got this one can give you, behind you, this one can give you your passenger, totally up to you. It's just nice to have that visibility behind you. I know a lot of people want to keep the eye, keep an eye on their passengers as well. So, it's a good extra mirror to put on there.
