Why are Electric Bikes the Best Type of Bicycle for Heavy People? Overweight People Love EBikes

Why are e-bikes the best kind of bike for plus-size people? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today, I'm joined by Adam and Lexi, and we're gonna explain to you why e-bikes are the best type of bike for plus-size people. All right, so I'm joined by Lexi, who's 5 foot 1, 230 pounds, and Adam, who's 5’10, 315 pounds. We've just had them test out a bunch of e-bikes, and actually, I put in front of them the two that they each chose as their favorite. So Lexi chose the Relaxed Body, and Adam chose the Simple Step-Thru 26 inches.

Dustin: So Adam, in your words, describes to you why you like an e-bike well the assistance helps in getting started.

Adam: One of my biggest struggles in riding bikes in general is that that first initial get-go that first step and having that assist helps make it so much smoother, so much easier and it helped like, the throttle and everything helps me enjoy bike riding, which I normally wouldn't.

Dustin: Is it just too much of a struggle?

Adam: Too much of a struggle. Yeah. Yes, absolutely.

Dustin: And then going up hills, so your terrain can be different with an e-bike.

Adam: The thing I hate most about biking is having to go uphill and having to stand just to get up that hill. So the fact that this thing helps with that, that I don't even have to stand, you just pedal. That's it.

Dustin: Yeah. Cool. And we're going to take a little ride after to show you guys how they can get around on their e-bikes too. So, Lexi, you've ridden e-bikes a little bit before, but what did you enjoy most about them and why do you think they're so beneficial?

Lexi: I like the freedom you feel when riding them. Because you could go at whatever speed you want to. You could go fast, slow, or just relax. But I like fast. And you could feel the breeze on your skin and it's amazing. It's so much fun. I just feel a sense of freedom.

Dustin: How about the hill, though, too? Because you took this up the hill what was that experience like having the electric assist for you?

Lexi: Super easy. I was surprised because normally it is a little bit more difficult going uphill. It's like I'd probably end up getting stuck on a regular bike and have to walk it up. But this made it extremely easy and fun, too.

Dustin: Cool. All right. So, yeah, one of the huge benefits, as Adam said, and Lexi, well, number one is If you struggle to get the pedals moving, maybe you're just building your leg strength up, it's nice to have that throttle to get the bike rolling so then you can start pedaling. And even if you don't have the leg strength to keep it pedaling, you can shift it to a higher assist level. And so over time, if your goal is, let's say, to lose weight or build muscle strength, you can adjust the assistance levels as you see fit. So if you're someone that's looking for a bike and maybe you struggle to get it moving. An e-bike is a great option. The other thing, too, is it's going to expand the type of terrain you can take on. So you can take on hills, and like Adam said, you don't have to stand up and pedal. We're going to get them on these we're going to go for a quick ride. We're going to take them up a pretty large hill, and Adam's going to show you exactly what he said, where he doesn't need to stand up at all and Lexi's going to enjoy the ride with the freedom and the wind in her face. So we're going to get our helmets on, and then we'll bring you with us.

Adam: All right, let's do this. Let's ride.

Dustin: All right, here we go up the big hill.

Adam: Here we go.

Dustin: Turn left right here. We're clear, no cars. Now there are cars. How was the hill?

Adam: It was great.

Dustin: Could you have done that on a regular bike?

Adam: Not in a... Maybe when I was younger.

Dustin: All right, we'll make a loop and just head back.

Adam: Sounds good. Cool. Maybe in my younger days.

Dustin: All right, well, there you can see why e-bikes are the best type of bike for plus-size riders. I think Adam and Lexi can attest to that. They're awesome, make it so much easier to ride as you build leg strength and you can just enjoy the ride so much more, don't you think? Just not having to worry about overexerting if you don't want to.
